BASF to increase prices of some polyol products in North and South America

From June 1, 2022, or as permitted by existing contracts, BASF will increase prices for certain polyol products in North and South America.
Neopentyl Glycol (NPG) is a unique polyol with excellent properties in many end applications. Due to its high chemical and thermal stability, NPG has proven itself in many applications, especially as a base material for polyester and alkyd resins for the production of various coatings and plastics. An important area of NPG application is powder coatings, which have proven particularly successful in the construction industry as well as coatings for household appliances. Other areas of application for NPG include the manufacture of lubricants, plasticizers and pharmaceuticals. It is used as a base material for synthesizing hormones, cardiovascular drugs, and pain relievers, among others. BASF sells NPG under its NEOL® brand.
1,6 Hexanediol (HDO) is used in the manufacture of industrial coatings, including low VOC formulations, polyurethanes, adhesives and cosmetics. HDO is also used as a reactive diluent in the formulation of epoxy resin systems, such as for the efficient production of rotor blades for modern wind turbines, and structural components for automotive lightweighting applications.
1,5-Pentanediol (PDO) is used as a linear diol to produce various resin types such as polyester and polyurethane (polyester polyol and polycarbonate diol) resins. These resins are used, for example, in the production of adhesives and sealants. PDO is also used to produce coatings, where PDO helps to achieve a good balance between hardness and flexibility, adhesion, weather resistance and hydrolysis resistance.
Capromer® polycaprolactone is a specialty polyol used in high performance polyurethane applications such as thermoplastic elastomers for technical applications and coatings.
