Spanish energy group Repsol said it was investing more than 18 million euros to increase production of polymer polyols at its plant in Tarragona, Spain.



The company seeks to expand capacity with a second material reactor and increase its product portfolio with higher-quality materials for furniture, bedding and automotive.



The company said the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023, and the plant will use new technology developed by scientists at Repsol's technology lab. "As a result, the process has been optimized and the properties of the foam, along with stiffness and tensile properties, have been improved to meet the requirements of high-end applications."



Repsol currently operates an Alcupol branded polyol production line in Tarragona with a total capacity of 140,000 tonnes/year. The majority of production is polyols for flexible foam applications, while polymer polyols are produced in smaller quantities.
