PPG commits to setting science-based emission reduction targets and releases 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report

May 26, 2022 - PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced that the company is committed to developing near-term climate-science-aligned emissions reduction plans for the entire company through the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), which aims to Helping businesses develop decarbonization strategies and reduce the impact of climate change.

PPG's existing target is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 15% by 2025 from 2017 levels, and to achieve a phased reduction of 9.7% in 2021. The company continues to report the emissions intensity of its own operations (Scope 1 emissions) and the emissions intensity of purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling (Scope 2 emissions) on a long-term basis, and plans to announce its new 2030 emissions reductions in the coming months Target. future,

The latest report highlights PPG's environmental initiatives and innovations around the world, including:

● Launched PPG ERGOLUXE™ powder coating, its one-time powder coating rate is as high as 85%, and the overspray coating can be reused. PPG ErgoLuxe Eco contains up to 13% recycled rPET. Since 2017, PPG has used more than 6 million pounds of rPET to produce coatings.

● Released PPG COMEX' TOP paint, which has made outstanding contributions to the circular economy through the recycling and reuse of waste tires since its launch in 2021, with more than 270,000 waste tires recovered from landfills. The product can be applied to roofs and provide thermal insulation, reducing emissions through energy savings.

● Implementing a zero-discharge program at architectural coatings plants in the US and Canada has enabled PPG to recycle and reuse more than 1.7 million gallons of water during the past two years of production.

● The installation of a combined heat and power (CHP) unit at the plant in Caivano, Italy, has greatly improved efficiency, equivalent to a reduction of approximately 1,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.

● Invested more than $8.7 million in PPG's global "Colorful Communities" campaign from 2015 to 2021.

In 2021, PPG reduced process waste, increased use of renewable energy, and increased sales of sustainable products. Key highlights include:

● Achieved 38% of sales from leading sustainable products, targeting 40% by 2025;

● 24% of electricity consumption has come from renewable energy sources, with a target of 25% by 2025;

● 40% of production and R&D facilities have achieved zero process waste to landfill, higher than the 2025 target of 35%;

● Waste treatment intensity decreased by 37% compared with 2017, higher than the target value of 25% in 2025.

To create strong and equitable communities, PPG strives to attract employees and focus on the diversity of talent. PPG's work on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) includes:

● Announcing new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) commitments:

- By 2025, the proportion of non-first-line female professionals globally will reach 34%-36%. As of December 31, 2021, this figure has reached 30%.

- 45%-55% increase in the percentage of Black, Latino, and Asian Americans among non-frontline workers in the U.S. (as of January 1, 2021). By the end of 2021, PPG's non-frontline Black employees will increase by 13%, Latino employees by 9%, and Asian employees by 8%.

- By 2025, achieve 50% participation in the global Employee Resource Network (ERN) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) capacity building. By the end of 2021, this figure had reached 33%.

● Released the first PPG DE&I report.

● Develop 8 global Employee Resource Networks (ERNs) covering more than 7,000 employees in more than 60 countries.

● Cumulative investment of $7.4 million by 2021 to fund the education of black communities and people of color to promote racial equality in the United States.

The disclosures in PPG's 2021 report are in compliance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) chemical industry standards. The company also enhanced its reporting on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and reported on climate-related qualitative risks as required by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
