In the 1970s, China's polyurethane production capacity ranged from 11,000 tons to 11.3 million tons. From relying heavily on foreign technology and raw materials to comprehensive breakthroughs in innovative technologies and gradually improving the industrial chain, it became the world's largest polyurethane producer and seller.
Since the founding of New China 70 years ago, China's polyurethane industry has achieved a series of brilliant achievements in the production of raw materials and downstream markets through the introduction of technological devices, absorption and perfection, independent innovation, and has become the world's largest polyurethane production and sales country.
At present, China has become the world's largest polyurethane raw material production base and the largest production and consumption market for polyurethane products. According to statistics, the total output of isocyanate chains (TDI, MDI and HDI) reached 3.57 million tons in 2018. Among them, TDI production accounts for more than 20% of total production, MDI production accounts for more than 70% of the total, and polyether polyol production of 2.72 million tons. The annual output of polyurethane products reached 11.3 million tons. Polyurethane foam became the most important variety of polyurethane materials. The output accounted for more than 50% of the total amount of polyurethane products. Synthetic leather pulp, sole liquid, spandex and coatings also accounted for a large proportion. Its product output, consumption and export volume rank first in the world.
